VITAMIN B-6 (PYRIDOXINE) is necessary for the formation of prostaglandins that regulate blood pressure, muscle contraction, and heart function. It inhibits the formation of a toxic chemical called homocysteine, which attacks the heart muscle and allows the deposition of cholesterol around this vital organ.1

Pyridoxine also promotes the production of the neurotransmitter serotonin that regulates sleep, pain, mood, and eating habits. Moods stabilize when pyridoxine intake is increased.2

Approximately 40% of Americans are low in their intake of pyridoxine. This deficiency is especially common in individuals on restricted diets, individuals who consume diets high in sugar and fat, and women on oral contraceptives.3

VITAMIN B-12 (CYANCOCOBALAMIN) is necessary for normal processing of carbohydrate, protein, and fat in the body. This vitamin functions in the replication of the genetic code within each cell and is essential for the replacement and maintenance of all cells in the body.4

Researches have found that by depriving the microorganism Euglena of its Vitamin B-12, they can duplicate the effects of aging in human cells.5

MAGNESIUM (OXIDE) helps prevent muscle weakness, twitching and aids in maintaining proper pH balance as well as plays a role in carbohydrate and mineral metabolism.6 A loss of magnesium through sweat can bring on fatigue and muscle cramps because of the role the mineral plays in controlling muscle contraction and regulating the conversion of carbohydrates to energy.7

ZINC PICOLINATE is known to participate in reactions involving the major metabolites, such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Zinc is involved in the digestion of protein, the mineralization of bone, the conversion of calorie nutrients to energy, and in the transport processes, immune function, and expression of genetic information.8

Zinc is necessary for normal taste acuity and enhances the effectiveness of insulin. If a person over eats in part because food has lost its flavor, a deficiency may be the cause.9

Zinc helps eliminate cholesterol deposits and also aids in the proper growth and maturity of the sex organs in both men and women. In fact, irregular menstrual cycles in teen women is an indication of a zinc deficiency.10

Zinc deficiency is common in the majority of the U.S. population because of soil exhaustion and the processing of food adversely affects zinc content.11

CHROMIUM PICOLINATE GTF  works with insulin to facilitate the up-take of blood sugar and is needed for energy.12 Chromium has been shown to be protective against cardiovascular disease and can significantly reduce cholesterol.13

Six studies in the Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (1994), demonstrate a direct relationship between fat loss and increased intake of supplemental chromium.

Poor dietary intake of chromium results in limited availability of glucose tolerance factor (GTF) and impaired insulin activity. Blood sugar remains elevated and a diabetes-like condition similar to Type II Adult Onset develops.14, 15

There is evidence that marginal chromium deficiency is common in the United States, due to (1) soil depletion; (2) refined foods; (3) excessive sugar consumption; (4) lack of exercise in today's modern society; and (5) obesity. As a result, the diabetes rate has tripled since 1958 and now accounts for over 15% of the nation's health care budget.16

L-TYROSINE (AMINO ACID) suppresses appetite, reduces body fat, and acts as a mood elevator. This amino acid provides the raw materials for dopamine and noradrenaline (two vital chemicals for thought and emotions) in the brain.17

ZINGIBER OFFICINALE (GINGER ROOT) FROM EXTRACT helps the body recover from the effects of stress and fatigue more rapidly than otherwise.18 It works indirectly to increase the availability of dietary nutrients for digestion and metabolism and will markedly facilitate the utilization of energy stores.19

Ginger root helps reduce serum cholesterol levels, an effect that would promote long term circulatory improvement.20

Ginger root produces a generalized stimulant effect which diffuses slowly from the G.I. tract, and energizes the blood. A study in the Soviet Union uncovered that patients with various chronic lung and heart insufficiencies experienced considerable cardio-tonic benefits from ingesting a species of wild ginger similar to Zingiber officinale.21 Cardio-tonic principles in Ginger root have also been discovered by Japanese researches.22

As an added bonus, an American pair of investigators demonstrated that Ginger root is more effective than Dramamine in preventing motion sickness.23

YERBA MATE (EXTRACT) contains small amounts of xanthine alkaloids (caffeine, theobromine, theophylline, and specifically mateine). Mateine is thought by many authorities to be similar to caffeine, but the effects of mateine on the body are substantially different. It has a direct, stimulating effect on metabolism. In fact, yerba mate' has long been known to prevent and reduce fatigue.24

Yerba mate' has a worldwide history of use. In Germany it has become popular as a weight-loss aid and is the subject of a German monograph which lists its approved uses for mental and physical fatigue. In France yerba mate' is approved for the treatment of asthenia (weakness or lack of energy), and as an aid in weight-loss programs. The British Herbal Pharmacopoeia indicates yerba mate' for the treatment of fatigue, weight loss, and headaches.25, 26

Swiss researchers performed a study on human subjects that indicated yerba mate' could be beneficial as a weigh-loss aid as a rise in the proportion of fat oxidized was noted.27

Yerba mate' has significant antioxidant activity as demonstrated in numerous studies.23, 24

PROPRIETARY ACTIVATOR COMPLEX:

CAMELLIA SINENSIS EXTRACT (standardized for 50% polyphenols) has been used for thousands of years in Asia as both a beverage and herbal medicine. The leaves contain four primary antioxidant compounds called polyphenols. Epigallo-catechin gallate (EGCG) occurs in the greatest amounts and is an antioxidant that is several times more potent than vitamin E.30, 31

Research has shown that Camellia sinensis is effective against a number of conditions, ranging from lowering cholesterol and capturing free radicals to reducing the risks of certain types of cancers.32, 33, 34

An experimental double-blind study was conducted in June 1985 on 60 obese women aged 30-45 years. Half the women ingested Camellia sinensis powder while the other half were given a placebo. The women in the treatment group lost 3 times as much weight as the placebo and experienced 4 times as great a reduction in waist size. No side effects were reported.35

A more current study (Dec 1999) showed that the catechin polyphenols in the Camellia extract may alter the body's use of norepinephrine, a chemical transmitter in the nervous system, to increase the rate of calorie burning.36

CITRUS AURANTIUM EXTRACT (Standardized to 6% synephrine) comes from a fruit commonly known as bitter orange, which is utilized in traditional Chinese medicine. Extracts from citrus aurantium contain a combination of five adrenergic amines, specifically synephrine, N-methyltyramine, hordenine, octopamine, and tyramine.37

These amines stimulate beta-3 cell receptors with minimal effect on other alpha and beta receptors which may indicate that citrus aurantium increases metabolic rate without affecting heart rate or blood pressure.38

Stimulation of these beta-3 receptors elicits the breakdown of fat. Simultaneously, this stimulation causes an increase in the metabolic rate - thermogenesis - which burns calories.39

Synephrine is the major "active" adrenergic amines found in Citrus aurantium. This compound is chemically very similar to the ephedrine and pseudo-ephedrine found in ephedra (Ma Huang) and is a stimulant via adrenergic activity. As stated above, however, synephrine does not appear to increase heart rate or blood pressure the same as ephedra.40

Because synephrine is a small component of the Citrus aurantium fruit, a standardized extract providing 3 to 6% is necessary to achieve a therapeutic dosage.

In addition to synephrine, the extract of Citrus aurantium also contains the adrenergic amine octopamine which may act as an appetite suppressant without the harmful side effects of prescription drugs such as Phentermine.41

GUARANA SEED POWDER is taken daily as a health tonic by millions of Brazilians who believe it helps overcome heat fatigue, combats premature aging, detoxifies the blood, and is useful to reduce obesity.42

Guarana seeds contain between 4 and 8% caffeine, as well as trace amounts of theophylline and theobromine. They also contain large quantities of alkaloids, terpenes, tannins, flavonoids, starch, saponins, and resinous substances.43

The xanthine alkaloids (caffeine, theophylline, theobromine) are believed to contribute significantly to guarana's therapeutic activity.44 In clinical  studies, theophylline stimulates the myocardium and central nervous system, enhancing alertness and alleviating fatigue. Theobromine has similar effects.45

The use of guarana as an effective energy tonic, for mental acuity, and to enhance long-term memory recently was validated by scientists.46  Guarana also has been found to facilitate weight loss, by creating a feeling of fullness and having a mild thermogenic effect.47

Toxicology studies with animals have shown that guarana is non-toxic, even at high dosages.48

DL-METHIONINE is an essential sulphur containing amino acid that assists in the breakdown of fats, thus helping to prevent a buildup of fat in the liver and arteries.49

Liver function is disturbed in a large percentage of overweight individuals.50   Nutritional factors which improve the liver's ability to break down and metabolize fat are important components of a successful weight-loss formulation.

DL-Methionine is a powerful antioxidant shown to help detoxify harmful heavy metals such as lead in the blood.51
