DHEA is a potent steroid hormone that should be utilized with care as neither science nor medicine has a full understanding of how it metabolizes into estrogens, androgens, and other hormones.

A color brochure entitled DHEA Therapy is being circulated among health practitioners which states: "DHEA is very safe because the body knows how and where to use it for optimum health, and seems to basically ignore the DHEA if it doesn't need it. "This statement is highly misleading!

No long term studies on humans have been conducted using this steroid nor do medical practitioners fully agree as to the dosage levels considered to be safe or effective.

What is known is that DHEA therapy is not suitable nor necessary for patients under 40 years of age unless low DHEA blood serum levels are confirmed. Further, DHEA appears to be of little benefit in promoting weight loss nor is it effective for muscle enhancement in those under 40 years of age, two areas in which DHEA has been heavily touted by unscrupulous promoters.

This Report has been prepared for client use to separate clinical facts from media hype regarding DHEA therapy.
